Imran Hussain’s resignation as North MCD councillor accepted

North Delhi Municipal Corporation (North MCD) has accepted AAP MLA Imran Hussain’s resignation as councillor after a controversy erupted over his holding two positions at same time.

North MCD has informed the State Election Commission about Hussain’s resignation as councillor and the seat of Ballimaran Ward lying vacant now.

In 2012, Imran successfully fought municipal corporation elections on an RJD ticket. In 2014, he as AAP candidate contested the Assembly election from Ballimaran and won.

“We have received a letter from the North MCD stating that seat of Ballimaran seat ward has fallen vacant. After this, there are 23 municipal seats where we will soon conduct bypolls,” said a senior official of State Election Commission.

Newly-elected North MCD Mayor Ravinder Gupta said keeping aside the political conflict, former mayor Yogendra Chandolia on April 24 accepted Hussain’s resignation as councillor despite the fact that he didn’t give his resignation within stipulated time period as per laid down procedures.
