The NIA investigators, along with Burdwan district police during search operation raided the house of a man named Rezaul Karim, located at Mathpara on Badsahi Road near Khagragarh, and recovered the explosives.
It was learnt that during the search, the NIA men found some sacks from which one of the hand grenades fell on the floor. National Security Guard (NSG) personnel, who are assisting NIA in the case, were immediately called in. NSG men along with sniffer dogs found at least 40 improvised hand grenades.
The National Security Guard team camping at Burdwan is assisting the NIA investigators in safe disposal of the IEDs which are located in a thickly populated area.
Soon after the incident, the area was cordoned off by the police. This is one of the three houses found by the investigators that was being used by the blast suspects apart from the one where the explosion had taken place. The state CID had earlier searched the house and found some documents.
‘We have launched a massive combing operation to hunt Rezaul who is missing since the 2 October blast. We have detained some people in this connection and their interrogation is going on,’ NIA sources said.
The NIA probing the Burdwan blast has zeroed down some of the Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) activists for conspiring terror activities in India.
On 9 October, the centre handed over the Burdwan blast case to NIA and probe revealed that the conspiracy to make a firm base in West Bengal, Bihar and in Kerala by Bangladeshi terror outfits was hatched in between 2011-2013. During these years series of meetings were conducted by the terror groups at the bordering areas of West Bengal.
So far six persons, including two women, have been held in this connection and a Nano car seized with a fake sticker of Indian Army on it.
TMC spokesperson Derek O’Brian said, ‘India is a terror hub and West Bengal is being targeted politically by a section of political leaders. This is a part of bigger political game,’ he added.
