Several persons, including the Additional Superintendent of Police of Imphal West district, were injured on Friday as protesters defied curfew to stage demonstration in different places across Manipur demanding implementation of the Inner Line Permit System, officials said.
In several places of Imphal West and Imphal East districts, protesters staged <g data-gr-id="10">protest-demonstration</g> and burnt effigies of the Chief Minister and Deputy CM, forcing the police to fire rubber pellets and tear gas shells, police officials said. The mob retaliated by hurling stones and slingshots in which Additional Superintendent of Police of Imphal West district Bikramjit Singh was injured in the face. Some protesters also got hurt, they added. Meanwhile, the curfew, which was imposed in Imphal West and Imphal East districts on July 8, has been relaxed for five hours on Saturday in the morning, IGP (law and order) Clay Khongsai said.
