North Delhi Municipal Corporation [NDMC] will legalise unauthorised balconies in houses of its area. A proposal is slated to be passed in the House meeting of NDMC on Tuesday. The corporation is also likely to pass a resolution demanding nomination of councillors in board of Delhi Development Authority [DDA] and Delhi Jal Board [DJB].
‘Several people in the area have constructed balconies and chhajjas, which are illegal as per present norms and invoke demolition, but constructions have now become a necessity for every house. We want to legalise it to save the citizens from the clutches of corrupt officers of corporation and local police. Subsequently, a resolution will be passed,’ said Mahender Nagpal, Leader of House, NDMC. According to a rough estimate, over 10 lakh people in NDMC area would be benefited in the move.
In another resolution to be put before the House meeting, the NDMC will demand nomination of councillors in the board of DDA and DJB.
‘Earlier, two councillors from erstwhile MCD were nominated each to DDA board and DJB as representatives of local body, but the posts have been lying vacant since trifurcation. We want one councillor from each corporation to represent local bodies in DDA board and two councillors from each corporation to represent in DJB,’ added Nagpal.
