Illegal autos to be banned in Noida, alternatives sought

In the wake of illegal autos and tempos in the city, running on a sharing basis without fear of traffic norms, Noida police has decided to ban them and file cases against such auto drivers.

SSP Pritinder Singh has directed the department to prepare a list of all auto drivers in the city. He has also asked his department to seize all such autos and tempos that are running without permits.

While these autos run illegally, they are the lifeline of the daily commuters in Noida, as no proper bus facility is available in the city. Thousands of people need to take these autos to reach their places of employment in Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Dadri from metro stations. While these autos are illegal, they are an important mode of travel for commuters.

Akhilesh Singh, DCEO, Noida authority said that it is a matter of concern for them and the authority is planning to come out with a suitable alternative. ‘We are planning to ply city buses in Noida so that the commuters do not face trouble when these illegal autos are wiped out from the roads.’

He added that in a meeting on Wednesday with authority chairman, Rama Raman, this issue was put forth and the chairman has assured to come out with city buses to solve the problem.

Nearly 2,500 autos have a legal permit to run, whereas more than 10,000 autos are running unlawfully. They run on a sharing basis, where more than 15 persons travel at one time.
