The IIT-Roorkee students who were recently expelled for under-performance by the premier institute, were on Thursday allowed to appear in a re-examination following court's order.
“The expelled students, who turned up at the institute to appear in the re-examination, were allowed to take the test,” said Pramod Agarwal, Dean (Academic) IIT, Roorkee.
However, Agarwal could not specify the number of such students.
In a reprieve to the students, the Uttarakhand high court had allowed them to appear in a re-examination scheduled to be held at the institute from Thursday, if they wanted and also directed the administration of the premier institute to file a counter-affidavit on a petition challenging its decision to expel them.
The interim order was issued by Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia on Wednesday on a petition filed by a group of 46 expelled students, challenging IIT Senate's recent decision to expel 73 students on the ground that no other IIT in the country had a rule to expel students who score less than five CGPA in semester examinations.
The court has asked IIT-Roorkee administration to file its counter-affidavit before July 21 when the case is scheduled to come up again for hearing, counsel for the students Arvind Vashisth said.
