With the overwhelming positive response of Delhiites in public meetings across the city on Saturday, AAP is inching towards government formation if it gets the same response in public meeting scheduled on Sunday.
The party organised several public meetings on Saturday where party leaders communicated directly with the people. They asked them whether they should form the government in Delhi with the support of the Congress or stay out. Manish Sisodia, senior party leader of AAP, addressed a public meeting in Khichri Pur area on Saturday morning. He read out Arvind Kejriwal’s letter. ‘We floated AAP to make politics and society corruption free. We don’t want power. We want to serve the people,’ said Sisodia.
The AAP leader further said in the last few days, BJP and Congress leaders were insisting that Kejriwal should form the government. On Congress’ support to AAP, Sisodia said: ‘We did not ask them to extend support. It was their decision. We are ready to form the government if the people want us to do so. He raised the 18 points before the people again and explained each of them in detail. Manish also said that his party is against the demolition of jhuggis until they get resettlement. He also said AAP is ready to face election again if need be.
‘Till now we have got a very positive and explicit response from the people of Delhi in the meetings held in various constituencies. If things go the same way, AAP will definitely form the government,’ said Sisodia.
On Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Arvinder Singh Lovely’s remark on AAP using abusive language against the Congress, Sisodia said the party need not get aggressive towards anyone when labelled corrupt. ‘We have a policy of calling the corrupt corrupt and the wrong wrong’, said Sisodia. He said that AAP cannot praise Congress even if they are ready to give unconditional support, as it is against its policy. ‘We are waiting for the people’s decision in the remaining meetings. Once everything is clear, we will give our final decision by Monday,’ said Sisodia.
Although AAP is waiting for the final approval of the city’s electorate through a public referendum, senior leaders feel government formation is imminent and the party is now looking at what its priorities should be immediately after coming to power.
