‘If SP can construct parks why can’t we’, asks Maya

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati took a strong exception to the statement made by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav that the BSP government had misused funds by constructing Parks and Memorials.  She said that if the SP government can construct Lohia parks, constructon of parks in memory of dalit icons cannnot be criticised.

‘If Samajwadi Party can make parks in the name of Lohia then why are they opposing the construction of statues of dalits and other backward community leaders constructed by BSP? It proves their narrow mentality and biased attitude,’ Mayawati said in a statement here on Sunday.
She said that these parks and memorials constructed during the BSP regime between 2007-12 have turned into a ‘religious’ and ‘tourist’ spots, while the government is earning handsome revenue through its entry fee.

‘SP will have to suffer for its opposition to the memorials and parks as its shows their anti-dalit and anti-backward mentality,’ she said while claiming that the present government in UP was just concerned about only the Yadav community and no one else.

In an attempt to contradict the charges made by the SP government, Mayawati said that during her reign the medical colleges of Kannauj, Jalaun and Saharanpur had started, while process for Para-medical college at Faizabad and medical college at Azamgarh also began.

She also condemned the SP for criticizing her for the Bhaichara committee meetings and terming it as a caste meeting. ‘BSP is not just a political party but a movement, which  connects all the caste and community for a Sarv Sammaj. Such allegation was just a move to weaken our movement,’ she claimed.
