ICAI completes 67 years, organises awareness programs

ICAI completed 67 years of professional excellence on July 1, 2016. The Chartered Accountants Day was celebrated all across the country by its 154 Branches & 5 Regional Councils. Many activities were undertaken to take forward the initiatives of the government like Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Tree Plantations, Distribution of Literacy Kits, Blood Donation etc.

In addition to these, ICAI has been chosen as the preferred institution to partner with the Union government to create awareness and maximise the potential of the Income Declaration Scheme, 2016. To take this initiative forward, ICAI is organising more than 100 “Citizen & Member Awareness” programs for the CAs across the length and breadth of the country on July 2, 2016. 

Union Minister of Defence Manohar Parrikar was the Chief Guest at the function organised at New Delhi to commemorate the occasion. The function was attended by over 1500 professionals and stakeholders.

At the outset ICAI Secretary V Sagar, welcomed all the dignitaries, the members in the profession and esteemed guests. While addressing the gathering Sagar said “1st July has a great significance for the Chartered Accountancy Profession in India, as on this day, in the year 1949 the Chartered Accountants Act was passed by the Parliament”.

In his Presidential address, CA M Devarja Reddy, President, ICAI  said “For the last 67 years, ICAI has been delivering its role as an Objective Standard Setter, Neutral Regulator, an Exemplary Educator and in short a Torch Bearer of the Accountancy profession in India.”

The President shared that “ICAI will also be participating in a first of its kind initiative in enabling the success of the Income Declaration Scheme, 2016.  ICAI with its wide network of 154 branches shall be launching an awareness program on this scheme on  July 2, 2016. ” He further added “ICAI is highly conscious of its role in strengthening the fabric of the financial framework and shall leave no stone unturned in its quest for Accounting and Audit Excellence.”

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar while congratulating the profession remarked “Chartered Accountants are the best advisors to any business & they are the backbone of sound financial system of any organisation. I would ask ICAI to come out with some suggestions for further improving the functioning of accounting system for Ministry of Defence.” While delivering the Vote of thanks, CA. 

Nilesh S Vikamsey, Vice-President, ICAI said “ICAI since its inception in 1949, has been the hallmark of transparency, fair play and efficiency in the field of accounting and auditing. Today the CA profession has attained enviable height as it possesses strong intellectual heritage and a tradition of trust.”

Vice-President also added “The initiatives taken by the Institute have helped the accounting professionals in creating an efficient space where they can deliver and contribute to the growth of our nation. The Chartered Accountants are truly Partners in nation building. It shall be our sincere endeavor to contribute towards the growth of Indian Economy.”
