The mystery woman, putting up at the prestigious LBS National Academy of Administration — masquerading as trainee IAS officer — for the past six months, has been arrested. The woman, identified as Ruby Chaudhary, had gained entry to the Academy using a fake identity card.
Chaudhary claimed that her stay was not clandestine and the Academy’s director, deputy director and other senior officers had knowledge of the same. Her date of birth as printed on the identity card is February 7, 1990. Rajeev Kapoor, a 1983-batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, is the Academy’s director. Chaudhary claimed that the identity card was issued to her on the order of a deputy director in the Academy, adding that he even made arrangements for her in the staff quarters. There are more than half-a-dozen deputy and joint directors at the Academy.
She alleged that apart from being granted entry to the Academy, she was promised of a job in the library by some middleman. She further alleged that the middleman had demanded a bribe of Rs 20 lakh for the job, of which she has already paid Rs 5 lakh.
Defending herself, Chaudhary told media persons, “I am neither a criminal nor a spy. Had it been so, I would have remained elusive. I should be punished only if found guilty. But I appeal that those found guilty in the entire incident should be booked and legal action be taken against them.” On the instructions of DGP Uttarakhand, a special investigation team and a woman police officer are probing her stay in the Academy. Though Chaudhary has been arrested, but the mystery shrouding the case needs to be addressed.
