IAS dreams: Govt’s academic centre to coach labourers’ kids

Children of construction workers in Delhi will no longer have to give up their dreams of quality higher education as the AAP government all set to introduce a <g data-gr-id="13">first-of-its kind</g> academic centre dedicated to them, which will offer free coaching.
The proposed centre will come up in the Jhilmil area of East Delhi and will offer coaching for civil services examination, medical and engineering entrances and other competitive examinations.
At present, there <g data-gr-id="17">are</g> 2.81 lakh registered building construction workers – plumbers, masons, electricians, painters and others – in the Capital. “We have proposed to set up a dedicated academic centre for the children of building construction workers at Jhilmil Colony. With such centre, <g data-gr-id="15">government</g> will provide <g data-gr-id="16">opportunity</g> to these children who often give up their study midways due to financial problems of their families,” said a senior government official.
‘Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board’ has prepared a proposal for the centre.
