‘Just wait for a while. I will speak. I will speak after the investigation is over’, said Sudipta Sen, prime accused in the chit fund scam that has erupted in West Bengal. Sen and his associates were sent to police custody again for nine days in another case.
Sen along with Saradha director Debjani Mukherjee and Arvind Singh Chouhan, who looked after the group’s operations in Jharkhand, were produced before the court of additional chief judicial magistrate, Bidhanagar, after the expiry of 14 days police custody.
Apparently Sen’s lawyer pleaded for police custody and not jail custody on the grounds that Sen wanted to ‘return the money’ to investors and hence it would be difficult for him to operate if given jail custody.
Debjani Mukherjee’s contention was that she was director of only five units and not 45 units as known earlier. Sen had written a letter to CBI last month complaining against 22 persons, including two TMC MPs, who allegedly blackmailed his company for money. Sen, Mukherjee and Chouhan were arrested from Sonmarg in Kashmir valley on 24 April, while they were on the run, for their part in the scam.
