Nupur Mehta, the Bollywood actor who has courted controversies in the past regarding match-fixing in international cricket tournaments, had recruited Geetika Sharma, the 23-year-old former air-hostess of MDLR airlines, who committed suicide on Sunday. Sharma blamed MDLR owner Gopal Goyal Kanda and the senior manager Aruna Chadha for taking the extreme step of ending her life.
Mehta has worked with Chadha for several years. She told Millennium Post that when she worked with the MDLR group she did not share a good relationship with Chadha. She accused Chadha of being extremely unfriendly and hostile towards other employees. Mehta said that Chadha spent most of her time with top bosses of the group to keep her career going. However, she did not comment on the Chadha's relationship with Kanda.
Mehta said that Ankita, whose name was mentioned in Sharma's suicide note, was the woman who was had an illicit relationship with Kanda and also had a girl child from this relationship. She also revealed that Ankita Singh is the same girl who was involved in a 'personal' dispute with Sharma and her in Goa that Sharma chose to take to the police. 'The dispute was very personal in nature, but Geetika took it to the police. Geetika was facing some issues with Ankita and I being Ankita's friend, my name also appeared in the FIR. Few years back, the case was settled,' Mehta added.
On Chadha's arrest, Mehta said, 'Thank God! I am relieved that she has been arrested. She should be punished of her evil deeds. She did not have a single friend in the company, except the bosses.'
Talking about Sharma, she said that Sharma was a very talented girl and had achieved a lot at an early age. 'I am shocked to hear about her suicide, as she was a very mature girl, but now I want that she should be given justice,' Mehta said.
However, she said she had a comfortable tenure with the group with Kanda at the helm of affairs. She said, 'Kanda was a very good boss. But, I don't understand why his name appeared in the suicide note. But, suddenly he is absconding. This behaviour may show his complicity in the act.'
WHERE IS GOPAL KANDA?
Former Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda has been absconding since Delhi police rejected the demand made by his lawyer to postpone his interrogation for three more days. According to police, four teams were constituted to search for Kanda.
Sources in police told Millennium Post that Kanda is planning to surrender on Thursday, probably between 11 am to noon. He might surrender either in Delhi or Haryana.
Kanda has been booked for abatement of suicide and criminal intimidation against Geetika Sharma, a 23-year-old former air hostess in MDLR airlines, who committed suicide after blaming Kanda for the extreme step in her suicide note.
Meanwhile on Wednesday, Aruna Chadha, senior manager of MDLR and an accused in the case, has been arrested by Delhi police. Chadha has been booked under Section 306 [abetment of suicide] and 120-B [criminal conspiracy] of Indian Penal Code.
In the evening, Delhi police conducted a raid in Gurgaon to nab Kanda. The team went to his residence at Civil Lines and also to the MDLR office in Gurgaon.
Meanwhile, as many as 10 teams of Delhi police questioned Aruna Chadha, Ankit Ahluwalia [HR-Legal Advisior, MDLR] and Mandeep Singh [an employee of MDLR].
It was learnt from sources that Ankit was questioned whole night, Tuesday, in the police station.
On Tuesday, Delhi police had also summoned Kanda to the DCP [north-west] office. On Wednesday, however, his lawyer asked Deputy Commissioner of Police P Karunakaran to postpone the interrogation for three days. Karunakaran rejected the request, saying Kanda has to come to his office at any cost.
After the death of Geetika Sharma, her mobile phone was seized by police to find any kind of evidence. As per the call details, a few numbers were traced. Geetika had talked on these numbers a couple of hours before committing suicide.
Reportedly, Mandeep Singh used three SIM cards to call Geetika. During questioning, Mandeep revealed that Kanda was using those three cards under his name to threaten Geetika.
‘Mandeep turned out to be a solid evidence against Kanda. Kanda had earlier media that he was not in touch with Geetika since she left the company,’ said Karunakaran.
On Wednesday, a few BJP politicians, including north-west mayor Meera Aggarwal -reached Geetika’s residence at Ashok Vihar phase III in north-west district. Also, for about 45 minutes, Karunakaran stayed inside Geetika’s residence to speak to her family.
Meanwhile, Kanda has applied for anticipatory bail in Rohini Court.
