Hydraulic failure forces AI plane to make emergency landing

Over 150 passengers on board a city-bound Air India flight from Varanasi had a close shave as the Airbus 320 plane landed under emergency conditions in Delhi due to a hydraulic failure.

After the plane touched down at the IGIA, smoke was seen from under carriage and pilot opted for evacuation, sources said. Seven passengers are said to have suffered minor injuries. 

“Air India flight AI 405 from Varanasi to Delhi had an emergency landing here as the pilot reported hydraulic failure. All passengers were evacuated safely,” airport sources said. The flight had originated from Khajuraho for Varanasi and from where it took off for Delhi.

Another Air India flight on Monday after the aircraft suffered a tyre burst and had to make an emergency landing at the Delhi airport. As a result, the airport’s main runway remained shut for a brief period. The Air India Delhi - Bagdogra flight (AI 879), with 143 passengers on board, took off from the runway 29 of IGIA at 11.32 am on Monday. At around 11.50 am, a tyre burst was detected in the aircraft. 

Earlier in a similar incident on Monday morning, an international flight from Istanbul had landed at Delhi airport’s runway 27 after one of its tyres burst. No causality was reported.
