At around 9 pm, Vinod Kumar (30) returned home in an inebriated state and started abusing his wife, identified as Priya. The argument turned violent and Kumar started beating her with a baseball bat, later recovered by police.
Priya’s screams were heard by her landlady who resides at the same building. After Kumar discovered that his wife had died, he escaped from the spot. Zubedia Begum, the landlady told police that one month ago the couple shifted as tenants in her house in Mayur Vihar.
The couple would very often. But none of the neighbours intervened assuming it as their personal matter, the landlady added. She also told police that Priya was not happy with her husband’s drinking habit.
‘Vinod came home at around 8 pm and soon the couple got into an argument. Zubeida Begum heard a loud noise around 9 pm and immediately sent her son to check,’ a police officer said quoting Begum’s statement.
She added that when her son went to check he found the main door open and upon entering in he found Priya lying on the floor in a pool of blood. A call to police was made by Begum and in the meantime, Priya was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital where she succumbed to her injuries an hour later.
Meanwhile, Priya in her statement accused Kumar of killing her. Based on her statement a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Mayur Vihar police station. A manhunt is on to nab him.
