A 45-year-old divorcee woman who was living with her two children and elderly parents in a posh colony of Green Park in South Delhi, has been robbed of cash and jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh by four persons. The domestic servant, who is missing since then, is suspected to be the kingpin.
The incident took place on Saturday, when the retired elderly couple were not present in the bungalow. On the ground floor, one of the son of Neeyati who is 12-year-old, was playing while she was on the first floor in her bedroom. At the time of the incident, a newly-appointed domestic help was also in the ground floor while, another maid was sweeping the first floor staircase.
At around 3.45 am, after the bell rang, the 17-year-old help opened the door when four armed men barged into the house and kept the child hostage. Further, they went to the first floor and overpowered the maid and tied the hands and legs of Neeyati. They also taped her mouth. One of the accused stayed back with Neeyati to keep an eye on her, while the other robbed off Rs 1.30 lakh and $500 along with diamond jewellery (approximately of Rs 48-50 lakh). The matter came to light when her parents returned home from the nearby market. A call was made to the PCR and when the police team reached the spot, it was learnt that there was no CCTV camera in and outside the bungalow.
“After the incident, the 17-year-old domestic help who joined the work almost 10 days ago was missing. There is a high possibility that he is the kingpin of the incident. It was learnt that the victim’s family have not conducted police verification. Through some agent they had hired him and on Monday and has been identified. Raids are on to trace him,” said a cop.
