Honour killing: Brother stabs sister’s husband

Yet another case of honour killing has come to light in the national capital on Wednesday, after a 22-year-old woman was stabbed along with her husband by her brother reportedly for marrying against the family’s wishes.

The incident took place at around 11 am, when the couple was at their house at Pratap Vihar, Phase-III in Aman Vihar area of outer district.

The couple from Bihar has been identified as Priyanka (22) and Harinder (33). They married each other two-and-a-half months ago in Delhi. Priyanka and Harinder were in a relationship for the last three years, but were afraid of disclosing the same to their families. ‘Harinder, who has a transport business in outer Delhi and owns three tempos, lives in Aman Vihar area with his brother. Soon after getting married, his family accepted Priyanka as their bride and the couple moved in with Harinder’s family,’ the investigating officer informed. Priyanka’s family, however, never accepted the relationship.  On Wednesday, Priyanka’s younger brother Shashi Bhushan Singh (20) came to her Aman Vihar residence, the officer added.

In her statement to the police, Priyanka said, ‘Shashi asked me to come along with him and break the marriage. But when I refused he stabbed me with a knife. Meanwhile, Harinder came and a scuffle took place between them. Shahshi stabbed my husband to death. He collapsed on the ground and Shashi managed to escape.’ Sanjay Kumar, additional commissioner of police (outer district) said, ‘A manhunt is on to nab the identified culprit.’
