HM sends Army to Munak Canal after city dries up

“Spoke to Rajnathji also and apprised him of grave situation. He has assured that Army is being sent to Munak Canal,” Kejriwal tweeted.

The CM also said that he spoke to Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar who also assured him that Army would be immediately sent to ensure safety of Munak Canal.

Meanwhile, late in the evening, deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Water Minister Kapil Mishra took up the matter with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Delhi Water minister Kapil Mishra also informed in a tweet that the Delhi government is moving Supreme Court to get relief. “Delhi Govt. has moved to Supreme court.Filing petition now at night.”

On Saturday Delhi slumped into a severe water crisis as agitating protestors in Haryana blocked water supply to the city forcing complete shutdown of seven Water Treatment Plants (WTPs). DJB is now able to produce only one third of water it produces in normal days.

Kapil Mishra informed that the government has taken certain decisions in a emergency meeting and assed by saying water supply will be rationed from Sunday morning.

The Delhi Jal Board meanwhile said: “The water production has come down from 820 MGD per day to 240 MGD per day. There will be severe water crisis in South, West, North West, Central, and parts of North Delhi. We have only 60 per cent water to supply on Sunday morning.” 

“I request the citizens to use minimum possible water,” the spokesperson added. She further informed that the supply of raw water feeding at seven WTPs have completely dried up and as a result all these plants had to be shut down. DJB has fully redirected the tanker fleet to the water deficient areas. The situation at Wazirabad is being constantly monitored.

Plants likely to be severely affected are the ones at Dwarka, Bawana, Nangloi, Haiderpur and Okhla.
Meanwhile the weekend leaves of all DJB officers were cancelled, said Mishra in a tweet. He added that the “Centre control room at DJB headquarter to monitor 24x7. rationing of water has started”.
