Himachal earmarks over Rs 5K cr for education

With a view to ensuring qualitative improvement in education, the Himachal Pradesh government has earmarked Rs 5,077 crore for education sector during the current financial year.
Besides, a skill education scheme has been launched for providing education and training in computer, self-defense and traditional arts to girl students.
Under this scheme, ten Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas have been established in backward education blocks in the state and an MoU had been signed with Himachal Pradesh Police and NGOs under self defense training programmes for the girls and 9,6075 girls have been trained so far, an official spokesman here said.
‘Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan’ is being effectively implemented in the state, he added.
All those students enrolled in the government schools have been covered under ‘Baseline and Terminal Assessment Survey’ so that study level assessment could be made to identify the shortcomings, the spokesman said. Sustained comprehensive evaluation system has been introduced which has significantly improved the quality of education, he said.
