High-tech traffic system to arrive on Noida e-way

The move follows a safety audit conducted by Central Road Research Institute carried out in July this year.

According to sources, the Rs 26.8 crore worth project will be in place within six months of implementation. The Intelligent Traffic System is expected to monitor and manage traffic flow on the expressway that is expected to result in a decline in the number of accidents. The authority is also thinking of setting up a Rs 36-crore Traffic Park with an aim to teach traffic sense to the commuters.
The authority is also hopeful that with the Intelligent Traffic System in place, the expressway will be under surveillance 24/7 and help in curbing instances of crime on the stretch.

The system will help get traffic data in real time, detect incidents and congestions automatically and inform road users about estimated travel time, road closures, diversions, rerouting and all major events. According to sources, the important features of Intelligent Traffic System include a control room, emergency call box, CCTV cameras, message signboards, speed cameras, automatic number plate readers, VID camera and meteorological data system.

The cameras would be placed at a height of 14 metres so that every movement up to a distance of 280 metres can be detected. Large LED display boards will be placed so that they can caution the motorists about road and weather conditions.

The most important feature of the Intelligent Traffic System would be the reduced response time of an accident. The Intelligent Traffic System will guide road users to adjust the speed so that there is a smoother flow of traffic. Also it will help coordinate policing and emergency services.

Since the 23.4-km long Noida-Greater Noida Expressway was opened for the commuters in 2002, it has witnessed some gruesome accidents and hundreds of deaths.

Nearly 55 people have lost their lives while hundreds have been injured this year already.
