High-speed crash on Yamuna E-way kills four HT execs

Four senior executives, working with Hindustan Times, died while three others were critically injured in an accident on the Yamuna Expressway on Sunday night. Police said that the occupants met with the accident when their speeding Swift Dzire car was involved in a head-on collision with a Tata Aria car after entering the opposite lane. The victims suffered grievous injuries and were taken to the Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida, where four were declared brought dead, while the condition of the remaining was stated to be critical. Notably, the accident took place a day after the tragic death of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), along with three other police officials in a road accident on the same Expressway.

Police said the incident took place at 11:30 pm, about 85-milestone away from the Zero Point when they were on their way from Delhi to Agra. The driver, who was over-speeding, lost control and hit a divider, crossing over to the opposite lane, where it hit a Tata Aria vehicle coming from the opposite direction, killing four occupants. Police said the car hit the divider with great force and flipped over to the other side of the carriageway, turning several times before coming to a stop. Three occupants of the Tata Aria car were critically injured. The deceased were identified as Umesh Chand, Manoj, Nakul and Divyanshu, all residents of Delhi. Umesh was zonal manager (ZM) of East Delhi area of Hindustan Times group, while the remaining were senior executives with the same company.

“All four were going to attend the funeral ceremony of regional manager Kirti’s mother. They were driving really fast, which seems to be the cause of the accident. As the accident took place under the jurisdiction of Mathura district, we have sent the post-mortem report to the Mathura police. The bodies have been handed over to their families,” said Brijesh Kumar Singh, SP (Rural) of Greater Noida.
