High costs lower Shoppers Stop Q4 profit 46.6%

Retail chain Shoppers Stop Ltd on Tuesday reported 46.60 per cent decline in standalone net profit to Rs 8.1 crore for the fourth quarter ended 31 March, 2014, due to higher expenses. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 15.17 crore in the corresponding quarter of 2012-13.
Income from operations in the period under review moved up to Rs 727.9 crore, an increase of 18.10 per cent from Rs 616.31 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal, the company said. Overall March quarter expenses were at Rs 717.31 crore, an increase of 19.81 per cent over last year.
