Herald house and Pratap Bhawan owe south civic body more than Rs 5 cr in property tax

Herald House and Pratap Bhawan, two major buildings at Fleet Street are among the top 16 property tax defaulters of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (South DMC)
According to a list issued by the local civic body, Herald House ranks third with over Rs 2.62 crore outstanding and Pratap Bhawan ranks fourth with over Rs 2.27 crore.
In the top of the list is a building at Tejpur Pahari with an outstanding of over Rs 4.50 crore followed by another building in Daraya Ganj with an outstanding of Rs 4.12 crore.
Other famous buildings that feature in the list are the two properties of Job Cons Pvt Ltd at Jangpura, Indian National Science Academy at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Rajindra Bhawan Trust and Anjuman Urdu Hind at Deen Dayal Upadhayay Marg.
‘We have achieved over 90 per cent target of property tax collection in South DMC,’ said Rajesh Gehlot, chairman of standing committee with South DMC.
According to the data with corporation, it collected Rs 528 crore against a revenue target of Rs 581 crore. The collection of the corporation in transfer duty so far is Rs 569 crore against a target of Rs 553 crore.
Gehlot appreciated the work of the officers of the property tax department and directed them to expedite the process to collect pending property taxes with government agencies such as DDA, Delhi Jal Board, DMRC, HUDCO, NTPC, CPWD, Delhi zoo, Delhi police, BSF and postal department, which owe over Rs 900 crore property tax to the corporation.
‘The employees of the department would be rewarded for their effort in achieving the target,’ said Gehlot and directed the officials to give bonus to performers.
