Once again, a domestic help was found to be involved in a robbery in Delhi’s posh colony, Hauz Khas, on late Tuesday night. Three armed men were allowed to enter a house by the help, who was later arrested along with all the other accused, said police.
The incident took place around 8.30 pm at Gulmohar Park in Hauz Khas. Three armed men knocked at the door of a house where Sumeet, former vice president of a private telecom company lives along with his family. The domestic help, Chandan, who was employed two months ago, was on the second floor of the building. His mother lives on the first floor.
At the time of the incident, Sumeet’s wife Reetu and their 10-year-old son were present and Sumeet himself had gone to attend a party. ‘Three men forcibly entered the house. They then ransacked the house and robbed Rs 20,000, gold jewellery, cell phones and other valuables at gun point,’ said Reetu.
Before the men escaped, they tied the hands of Reetu and her son. They also tied up Chandan and spent at least two hours in the house.
Reetu called up the police around 10.15 pm. Police reached the spot and started investigation after recording the statements of the victims.
During investigation, it was revealed that Chandan started working at the house of complainant just two months ago and he had been to his native place Bihar for 10 days recently. During enquiry, Chandan’s conduct was found suspicious.
Accordingly, he was put on sustained interrogation. Initially, he tried to mislead the police but later broke down and confessed to his involvement in the crime,’ said Chhaya Sharma, Deputy commissioner of police (south).
He also disclosed that he had planned the robbery with his three associates namely Vicky alias Raj Kumar alias Vakil, Raju Singh alias Sunny and Satbir alias Sonu, added Sharma.
He further disclosed that he had arranged a separate SIM card to communicate with his associates for a suitable time to commit the robbery. On the day of the incident, Chandan had passed information to his associates that the landlady was alone in the house.
On Chandan’s instance, a raid was conducted at the rented house of his associates in Meethapur, Jaitpur and three more were arrested. All the robbed valuables were recovered, said the official.
During interrogation, Vicky’s involvement in another robbery and murder case also surfaced. He was earlier working at Neeti Bagh in Defence Colony area as a driver. He along with his associates had committed the robbery at the house of his employer and murdered him and his wife.
They were arrested but released on bail in February 2012.
