Heliport set to come up in New Town

The heliport will accommodate four civil helicopters. There will be a lounge for the passengers and security check. HIDCO is now working out the details of the project which will improve New Town’s connectivity. The idea to set up the heliport was mooted by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The proposed heliport will be near Deer Park.

Rajarhat New Town will be developed into a smart city, where financial and education hubs along with health care and sports hubs will come up. Setting up of a heliport will benefit businessmen who will use the facility. It may be noted that MoU s to invest in education hubs and health care had been signed during the Bengal Global Business Summit 2016, held on January 8 and 9 at the Mila Mela ground.

Over the past year, New Town has become a major tourist destination. Thousands of people visit the Eco Park to enjoy the lush green scenery and dine at the floating restaurant. Officials feel that the heliport will benefit plying of helicopters to the Eco Park.
