Heavy rainfall hits normal life in Uttarakhand

The heavy rainfall in Dehradun and its surrounding areas choked the normal life and some schools reportedly remain closed. At noon, when rain stopped, there was heavy traffic in the market moving at snail-pace. The Raipur area got the maximum rainfall on Monday.

In Vikas Nagar, en route to Dak Pather (NH 72), a house collapsed due to heavy rain killing three persons of the same family, according to officials. In Chamoli and Rudraprag district, the district administration evacuated many inhabitants living nearby Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers due to fear of landsliding and cloud burst. According to Bhuvan Chandra Tiwari, in-charge District Information Officer (DIO) of Chamoli district, a cloud-burst was reported in the Urgam Valley near Joshimath (Rudraprayag-Badrinath highway) collapsing three houses with no human casualty. The Alaknanda and Pindar river are overflowing due to heavy rain.

At Karnaprayag, there is confluence of Pindar river and Alaknanda river. In Badrinath, an owner of shop told that it is continuously raining in Badrinath since early morning. Many roads are broken in the highway, and people are going to Joshimath by foot on dangerous treks.
