A harsh summer sun troubled Delhiites again on Wednesday as the mercury once again touched 42 degree Celsius, the highest for this season as the weatherman predicted heat-wave conditions by mid-May.
Wednesday’s maximum temperature was three degrees above normal and a steady rise from Tuesday’s 40.8 degrees, which was two degrees above normal for this time of the year, the Met department said.
The minimum temperature remained one degree below normal at 23.7 degrees, which was significantly down from Tuesday’s 25.3 degrees. Humidity levels were recorded between 13 and 57 per cent.
The weatherman has predicted clear sky for Thursday and temperature between 24 and 41 degrees.
Weather office had predicted that the city will witness a significant increase in maximum temperature for a week till 16 May.
‘Latest model output and the analysis indicate that the maximum temperature over Delhi (Safdarjung) will be in the range of 41-42 degrees centigrade during 8 May and 10 May ,39-40 degrees during 11-13 May and 41 – 43 degrees between 14 -16 May.
‘The maximum temperature may reach around 44 degrees in some areas of NCR on 16 May.
Therefore, heat wave conditions are likely to develop over Delhi NCR by middle of May,’ a statement said.
It further said drop in maximum temperature during the weekend will be in association with a western disturbance affecting the neighbouring areas of Delhi NCR during 11-12 May.
