Heart-rending tale from partition

It is a new production by <g data-gr-id="24">Antraal</g> theatre group, which is an independent professional group of theatre artists who have been operative in New Delhi since 2007. The play, which is directed by Akbar Quadri and Azam Quadri and written by Asghar Wajahat in 1980s, explores the immediate post-partition scenario revolving around memories and experiences of loss, pain, displacement and communal violence, which is a burning issue in contemporary times and also there has been a disruption to communal peace and harmony due to vested political interests and agendas. 

The story is about an old Hindu woman living in Lahore, who is robbed of her son and family during the riots at the time of partition in 1947 because she refuses to give up her home to a <g data-gr-id="23">muslim</g> refugee family from Lucknow.  While the <g data-gr-id="25">muslim</g> family had suffered painful displacement due to partition, they are desperate for claiming the house but are also not opposed to bringing in the <g data-gr-id="26">local-political</g> <g data-gr-id="27">goons</g> for the same. With the goons, who seem to take advantage of the situation, however, remain ignorant of the bonds of love, kindness and humanity.

<g data-gr-id="21">Antraal</g> basically  is a weekend theatre group as all the members are either working professionals or students from various fields. 

The group has been working towards social change since eight years. It was started with a clear motto “theatre for social change” and helps to bring people together to bridge the differences, heal divisions and shatter stereotypes. 

At <g data-gr-id="28">present</g> Fahad Khan is the director of <g data-gr-id="22">Antraal</g> Theatre Group. Earlier, the group has staged many plays like-Mausam Ko Na Jane Kya Ho 

Gaya, Udne Ko Aakash Chahiye, Aur Dronacharya, Jaati Hi Poochho Sadhu Ki, Jungli Jaanwar, Ek Kahaani…, Siskiyan, Aao Huzoor and Chainpur ki Daastan.
