Union health and family welfare minister Harsh Vardhan on Wednesday skipped the 59th institute day of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) as he was apparently busy in some other assignment.
‘Harsh Vardhan couldn’t attend because of some other assignment. So, he asked me to come to the function. He has apologised for his absence,’ said Lov Verma, secretary of department of health and family welfare.
It is speculated that the reasons for skipping the function is the recent controversy regarding sacking of AIIMS’ CVO Sanjeev Chaturvedi.
HarshVardhan has also clarified that there was nothing wrong in the government’s decision to sack Chaturvedi.
He further said that the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) had brought to the previous government’s notice on 20 July, 2012 that Chaturvedi’ s appointment as CVO in AIIMS was without its approval, which is required to be obtained in such cases.
