Headman attacked for opposing illegal sand mining G Noida

Even as there is a national outcry over illegal sand mining, the mafia is operating freely without any fear of law in Delhi and NCR (national capital region).

In a fresh incident, a village head was allegedly attacked by the armed goons for opposing illegal sand grabbing in and around his village, Atta-Gujaran. The village head managed to escape the attack, but, two of his associates suffered bullet injuries. Shockingly, the police tried to initiate penal action against the victims but took u-turn after pressure from the locals.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening near Atta-Gujaran village, located at the banks of Yamuna River, when the village head Ravindra Pradhan, in his car reached the mining spot.

Upon seeing his vehicle, few unidentified goons in two cars intercepted Ravindra and started firing. The attackers fled when they saw locals rushing to the spot. The victims claimed that as many as 20 rounds of bullets were fired before villagers arrived to their rescue.

The family of the victims have blamed mining mafia behind the attack. ‘When we went to police station to lodge complaint, it turned out that an FIR had already been registered against Ravindra his accomplices under Section 307 and 308 of IPC’, informed Jitendra, nephew of Ravindra.

He further said that his uncle has raised his voice against illegal sand mining many times in the past. ‘We have approached the district authorities several times which has irked people involved in illegal activities. This attack is an attempt to scare us’ he added.
