Head constable, home guard beaten up in E Delhi

A Delhi Police head constable and a home guard were badly beaten up by a group of drunkards, who are yet to be identified, on late Thursday night in East Delhi’s Pandav Nagar. 

The cop has stopped the <g data-gr-id="21">biker</g> for routine checking when the argument took place and the duo were beaten up, police said on Friday.  

“The head constable <g data-gr-id="30">Dalchand</g>, 49, was attacked by a group of men over a petty issue. Home guard Sahib Singh, 40, was also attacked by the culprits when he intervened in the matter to save <g data-gr-id="31">Dalchand</g>,” police said.

At the time of the incident, both the victims were deputed at a police picket. According to the official, the whole incident triggered after the head constable <g data-gr-id="28">Dalchand</g> stopped a motorcycle rider to check his documents as he was driving in a high speed.

“A heated argument ensued between <g data-gr-id="27">Dalchand</g> and the motorcycle driver who was drunk. The motorcycle rider then left the spot and returned in a few hours with four-five friends carrying wooden sticks and iron rods,” the official said.

“The accused then assaulted the victims and fled the spot. Both the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital from where Sahib Singh was discharged after first aid while <g data-gr-id="36">Dalchand</g> is still being treated,” he said. The official added that Dalchand’s condition is stable and he is out of <g data-gr-id="34">danger</g> but he has received fractures in both his hands and on his head. Police have registered a case and a probe is on to nab the accused, the official added.
