HC stays draw of lots, nursery admissions further delayed

Delhi high court has stayed the previous judgement of a single bench judge by which city government was required to conduct a fresh draw of lots for all the seats in nursery school admission and not just for those which were vacated after scrapping of inter-state transfer category.

The court was hearing an appeal filed by guardians of 14 children against the 6 March order of the single judge bench. Aggrieved parents said they were already declared selected for nursery admission after the draw of lots and would now have to undergo the same process again in pursuance of the single judge bench order on the issue.

The HC bench of acting chief justice BD Ahmed and Justice Siddharth Mridul also ordered that no nursery admissions will take place, till next date of hearing and posted the matter for 24 March. ‘In the meantime, the fresh draw of lots to be conducted in pursuance of the (single judge bench) order dated March 6 shall not take place. We also make it clear no admission shall take place till next date of hearing,’ said the court.

Parents, while challenging the order, said in their plea that those who have earlier secured 75 points because of inter-state transfer criteria have to be again considered but not at the cost of those who had already secured sufficient points for the consideration of admissions.

Earlier, Directorate of Education had announced that the first list for nursery admissions will come out on 15 March and the admission process shall close on 31 March. But now there is a little change in schedule for nursery admissions. The last date for the first list will come by 7 April on the pretext of schools serving as centres for the board exams.
