The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought the responses of the Lieutenant Governor (LG) and three Municipal bodies on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking unification of the Municipal Corporations of Delhi.
“The matter requires consideration. File your counter affidavits,” a Bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath told the counsels for the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and the East, South and North Delhi Municipal Corporations.
The court’s order came on the plea of Sharad Tiwari who has sought unification of the three Municipal Corporations of Delhi on the ground that trifurcation has created the on-going problem of lack of funds to pay salaries of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s employees which has resulted in a strike in the city.
The court has listed the matter for further hearing on March 23.
