HC notice to Delhi govt on plea for neighbourhood school

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notices to Delhi government’s education department on a PIL seeking implementation of provision of neighbourhood schooling in the top recognized private schools of the city.

A Bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath sought AAP government’s reply and asked it to take instructions on the averments raised in the petition, before April 25.

“Directorate of Education is asked to take instruction. They will file a short affidavit with regard to the averments made in the writ petition,” the Bench said.

The court was hearing a PIL filed by an NGO through advocate Khagesh B Jha, who submitted that this is for the benefit of the children residing in the neighborhood and not getting admission in the recognized unaided schools situated at concessional land allotted to them for running unaided private schools”.  It said that the land was allotted to Delhi government institutions and charitable societies intended to perform public duty under the provisions of Nazul land rules.
