Hazare may not share dias with Ramdev

Love and hate relationship between yoga guru Baba Ramdev and anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare and his former team continues, with uncertainty looming large over Hazare's participation in Ramdev's agitation starting 9 August  at Ramlila Maidan.

Sources said that Hazare would not share stage with yoga guru during his agitation as he is miffed with Ramdev who had praised Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi few days back.

This issue had surfaced during Hazare's agitation at Jantar Mantar prominently. Meanwhile, Ramdev has said that it is up to Hazare to decide whether he will participate or not. He also said that he had not invited Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi as after announcement of going political, they are no more social activists.  However, Ramdev himself had abstained from visiting Jantar Mantar after Team Anna announced decision to launch a political party.

Just few months back, Hazare and Ramdev had addressed a joint press conference in Pune and both had said that they would taking part in each other's agitation. Ramdev did keep his words when he joined Hazare and his former team at Jantar Mantar during their indefinite fast last month. Even at Jantar Mantar, Hazare had said that he would attend Ramdev's fast and that union of Hazare and Ramdev was in the interest of the country.

However, the members of the former team Anna had different views on Ramdev. Hazare's former team has been uncomfortable with Ramdev. The split in the team over Ramdev had become very evident during Hazare's protest, with some members criticizing Ramdev for meeting Modi and some not giving much importance to the whole issue.

Aswathi Muralidharan, Media Co-ordinator, India Against Corruption told Millennium Post that Hazare would not take part in Ramdev's agitation on Thursday and it is not decided as of now whether he will take part or not. 'It is for sure that Hazare will not attend the agitation on Thursday and as of now I cannot confirm when would he come to the Ramlila Maidan to share stage with Baba Ramdev as decision on this has not been taken on it. It has not been decided yet.'

RAMLILA GROUND DECKED UP FOR BABA RAMDEV

Braving rain and mud inside Ramlila Maidan, supporters of yoga guru Baba Ramdev have started arriving at the protest venue where he will start his agitation from Thursday.

A good number of supporters had already arrived at the venue on Wednesday and the registration process was underway. Entire ground has been filled with the colourful posters of Baba Ramdev and his movement.

Members and volunteers of Bharat Swabhiman Trust and other agencies have left no stone unturned to turn the campaign into a mega movement and all the arrangements have been done at Ramlila Ground. They were busy giving final touches to the arrangements at the protest venue. The arrangements will be in sharp contrast with the recently concluded Anna Hazare protest at Jantar Mantar.

Ramdev’s venue will have water-proof tents, CCTVs, public toilets, round-the-clock free food and drinking water and a dedicated medical team to attend to any kind of emergency.

There will be different gates for media, senior citizens and women. Security is a prominent issue and arrangements have been done for this. Around 60 CCTV cameras have been installed in the ground and metal detectors and baggage scanners will also be placed at all entry and exit points. Delhi police has given permission to host 30,000 people a day.

‘There will be everything available for supporters at the venue itself – from food to medical services. We are trying our best to make the Ramlila Maidan as good as possible. Because of the rain, mud is there in the Maidan, but we will set things right before the start of the protest,’ said a volunteer looking after the arrangements.

Supporters were seen raising slogans in Ramdev’s favour as well as the issues raised by him. ‘9 August has historical importance in the history of India. It was when the Quit India Movement started exactly 70 years ago,’ said a supporter.

Anticipating a huge turnout, it has been decided to streamline the crowd at the entrance. The main gate of the ground will be open to the general public while six gates facing the Municipal Corporation of Delhi building will be reserved - two each for women and senior citizens, and one each for the media and VIPs.

TEAM ANNA'S ONLY AGENDA WAS TO ABUSE POLITICIANS: THACKERAY

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Wednesday said that their single-point agenda was to abuse politicians.

‘At first they managed to fool the country. India has seen the effects of their success in fooling people,’ the 86-year-old Sena patriarch said in an editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamana.

Ridiculing the decision to disband Team Anna, Thackeray said, ‘This should have been done much earlier. Their single point agenda was to heap abuses on politicians’.

However, the question remains whether the team would reappear in another format, the Sena chief said.

Leave aside curbing corruption, the blabbering of Team Anna proved torturous for the people of the country, he said.

‘However, with the disbanding of the team, people must be free of that headache. Even Anna Hazare must be feeling relieved,’ Thackeray quipped.

The country’s constitutional format was endangered due to Team Anna, he added.
