Haryana govt reaches out to farmers

While giving a major relief to the farmers of the state, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday announced to remit the 1.5 per cent stamp duty chargeable under the Indian Stamp Act, 1899, in respect of instruments executed by the agriculturists in favour of any commercial bank for securing loan for the purchase of tractors with its accessories, tractor trolleys and thrashers. This facility would also be available for installation of tubewells based on diesel engine, boring and electrification of tubewell, laying of underground pipes, lining of water course, leveling and reclamation of land and development of horticulture and purchase of pumping sets, cane crushers, bullocks or plough and spray equipment, sprinkler irrigation for agricultural purposes, dairy, piggery, poultry, fishery and crop loans, agricultural loans, term loans, Kisan credit cards or any other allied purpose.

Hooda presided over a meeting at Chandigarh to review the action taken report on the recommendations of Haryana Kisan Ayog.

He said this decision would largely benefit the farming community in the state. Earlier, the Chairman of Haryana Kisan Ayog, Dr RS Paroda formally submitted the draft of Haryana State Agriculture Policy to the chief minister. The draft policy is an outcome of various interface meetings organised by Haryana Kisan Ayog with stakeholders at various levels.

While appreciating the work done by the Haryana Kisan Ayog in drafting the agriculture policy, the chief minister stressed the need to intensively take up the crop insurance so as to avoid any loss to the farmers. He asked the Ayog’s Chairman to work towards diversification of wheat-rice cycle and said that biomass should be utilised in power generation in rural areas.

Hooda also directed the Vice Chancellor of Choudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Dr KS Khokhar to develop new varieties of seeds of wheat and other crops keeping in view the climate change.
