Haryana files HC affidavit on Munak water sharing

With the tussle between the Delhi and Haryana government over Munak Canal water share being an unfinished agenda, the Haryana government on Tuesday, filed an affidavit in the Delhi High Court, requesting the Court “to direct the Delhi Jal Board not to draw any water from the two pipes embedded in the bed of Munak Canal Channel for its Dwarka Water Treatment Plant.”

On February 26, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had written a letter to his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar, asking him to take immediate steps to restore the supply of raw water through Munak Canal. Soon after, Kejriwal had inaugurated a 50 -MGD water treatment plant of the Delhi Jal Board in Dwarka.

The Delhi Jal Board spokesperson said: “The matter is sub-judice, so I would not comment.”

The Haryana government had agreed up on finding a solution to the drinking water problem in Delhi on December 3, 2014, when the problem was discussed at a meeting convened by the Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and attended by Khattar and Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung, before the announcement of the Delhi Assembly polls.
