Harsh Vardhan is Delhi BJP chief

In a politically significant move, senior BJP leader Harsh Vardhan has been appointed president of the Delhi unit of the party, ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Harsh Vardhan, 59, is the leader of the opposition in the Delhi Assembly. Before, Delhi assembly elections in 2013, Vardhan was to be given the reins of the party in Delhi, but at the last moment Vijay Goel was named as city BJP chief which did not go down well with the cadres necessitating recall of Vardhan as the party’s chief ministerial candidate.

The decision to replace Goel was reportedly triggered by low turnout in the rally at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday organised to expose Aam Aadmi Party and Congress.
