Investigations into Saturday’s shoot-out that killed UP liquor baron Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep Chadha have revealed the latter was carrying two pistols, one of them an Italian 9 mm and the other without any make imprinted on it.
‘He (Hardeep) opened fire on his brother with a pistol in each hand and pumped twelve rounds into Ponty’s body. The pistol in his left hand (the Italian one) developed a snag and its magazine fell on the ground. However, bullets fired from the pistol in his right hand killed Ponty. Out of fourteen rounds in the pistol, twelve were fired,’ the sources said, adding, ‘There were twelve holes and six bullets which were found in Ponty’s body in the X-ray.’ The incident had taken place at gate number 3 of the farmhouse.
Delhi police sources said that Hardeep was, in all likelihood, shot by Sachin Tyagi, personal security officer of Sukhdev Namdhari, Uttarkhand Minority Commission member. He fired in retaliation.
Sources also said during the gunfire Hardeep ran towards a guard’s room nearby to take cover. His body was found inside the room. ‘Three bullets have been found on his (Hardeep’s) body and eight live cartridges from where he was found dead,’ the sources said.
Besides, Ponty’s guard Narender also received injuries and was admitted to hospital. He was also shot at by Hardeep. Even though he (Narender) was carrying a country-made pistol, he couldn’t fire as Hardeep fired at him first followed by Ponty. ‘We found two bullets fired from a country made pistol which Narender was carrying. But they were fired in air to scare the caretakers minutes before the incident,’ the sources said.
