Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee has slammed the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement that Hindu religion has the capacity to digest other religions. The body had supported BJP in Lok Sabha and even had alliance in Delhi Assembly elections.
‘Sikhs are a different and independent religion and anyone dreaming of mixing it into other religion must read Sikh history first and then make any comment,’ said Manjit Singh GK, the president of Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC), on Tuesday in a press statement.
Not mentioning the name of RSS chief, he expressed his strong reaction to claims by ‘certain Hindu leaders’ of mixing other religions into Hinduism. ‘We have separate identity, we have separate holy scripture Guru Granth Sahib which is guiding force for Sikhs living all over the world. The principles of Sikhism are of universal brotherhood, peace, harmony, tolerance, and respect to other religions.
Sikhs don’t even think of merging other religions and communities into Sikhism but have history of giving own lives to save other religions,’ he added.
Angered over the remark he further said that Sikhs don’t need certificate from the people of other regions that we are different and independent religion. He also mentioned the contribution of Sikh gurus to save Sikhism and other religions. ‘Sikhs are only two percent in India but out of total who laid their lives for India’s freedom 90 per cent were Sikhs,’ said Singh asking the countrymen to shun communalism.
