Chief minister Sheila Dixit has told the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) that the election of DSGMC should be held under the new provision, according to which direct election of President could be held for a tenure of four years.
She assured the DSGMC establishment on Tuesday that the amendment would be passed in the next assembly election.
Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal had earlier announced to lead a delegation to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh against the amendment holding that it was a tactic of Congress government in Delhi to delay the election, which is already due.
On Tuesday, Paramjit Singh Sarna of DSGMC led a procession of Delhi based Sikhs to CM Dixit’s residence in Delhi to thank her for the amendment and in return Dixit assured them that amendment already approved by the Delhi cabinet would be passed in the next assembly election and new election would be held under this.
