The shop-owner (complainant) reported the matter to the newly-appointed police commissioner, who took immediate action.
According to police, around 7 pm on November 28, constable Bhupendra of Rajendra Park police station had gone to the complainant’s shop near the Daulatabad flyover, along with a friend, with alleged intentions to loot the goods. When they were allegedly trying to intimidate the shop owner, two of his associates arrived and the accused fled the scene.
On the morning of November 30, the accused reported the matter directly to newly-appointed police commissioner, Navdeep Singh Virk, who took immediate action and asked the concerned police station to register an FIR. Soon, Bhupendra was arrested, but his friend Vijender (the second accused) is still at large.
This is the second time commissioner Virk has taken stern action against a cop after he took charge earlier this month.
Last week, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was suspended for inaction with regard to a complaint of a brawl, in which a tempo driver was allegedly beaten up by some youths. When the victim reported the incident at the concerned police station, the ASI allegedly refused to act on the complaint. Virk had earlier said he shall not tolerate any corruption under his leadership.
