The lion breeding centre-cum-safari was launched by the then UP chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in 2005 but the project was delayed due to several hurdles including objection by the environment ministry and five year rule of BSP in the state. But now all clearances have been obtained and the first phase of the safari is underway, officials here today said. Etawah is home district of Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The Central Zoo Authority (CZA) approved the designs of the ‘breeding dens’. Officials confirmed that UP had asked for 10 zoo bred lions, but will receive four in the first phase from Gujarat.
