The first indicators of this came on Wednesday morning when Gujarat Governor Om Prakash Kohli visited VC’s office on University administration invitation.
Kohli, a former DU teacher and also two time President of Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) was received by the VC Dinesh Singh with his team members. The academician-governor spent about 30 minutes in the VC’s office where he was briefed about the university.
Later the VC accompanied the governor in his vehicle to a function at the Arts faculty building where the website of Sanskrit department was launched.
Kohli, belongs to National Democratic Teachers’ Front (NDTF), which backed the rollback of Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP). In July, the admissions for the DU batch of 2014 got delayed as many student and teachers’ associations protested against the FYUP structure in the university.
The four year programme was brought into university by VC Dinesh Singh along with his team. But in span of just one year it suffered many criticisms and ultimately it was rolled back this year.
On Tuesday, NDTF felicitated Kohli, where he counselled his colleagues for settlement of issue. ‘Around 1,000 teachers gathered for the programme. Kohli being the founder of NDTF was welcomed by its present office bearers and other teachers. He emphasised that since last few years, relationship between DUTA and DU has suffered a jolt. He further asked members that DUTA should not be divided and dialogue process should continue. He said, the teacher movement should take along all strands of ideologies,’ said Pramod Shastri, spokesperson of NDTF.
This year, DU has been in news for the tussle that is going within the university. Earlier, it was controversial FYUP and after that ad-hoc teachers issue.
