Guess who got a thumbs up from Scorsese?

After perhaps what seems like decades of Bollywood ripping plots of Hollywood films, time has come for the West to get up and pay attention. And take a wild guess as to which home-boy got a pat on the back from famous Hollywood director Martin Scorsese? None other than Anurag Kashyap!

Scorsese sent Kashyap a letter thanking him for a note and the movies he had sent him. Sources say that Kashyap had sent a collection of his works to the star director recently.

The typed letter which is signed off by Scorsese reads-

‘Dear Anurag, Thank you so much for your kind note and especially for sending your films. I have been shooting my film for the past three months but found time to watch the pictures over the weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed
Dev D
and Gangs of Wasseypur and found them exciting and inspiring.

Maybe one day we’ll be able to meet. Certainly if you come to New York I should be here. All my best to you in the future.’

Kashyap grabbed all the attention in Bollywood when he put out the modern day rendition of Devdas – Dev D; starring Abhay Deol, Kalki Koechlin and Mahie Gill. Since the success of Dev D, Kashyap has churned out the likes of Gangs of Wasseypur and Girl in the Yellow Boots.

Dev D was essentially the game-changer for Kashyap who’s earlier movies Paanch, No Smoking and Black Friday only survived on critical acclaim. Gangs of Wasseypur bowled over both audience and critics alike raking in nominations at almost all leading award functions.

Scorsese is known for blockbusters like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Gangs of New York, Hugo,  Cape Fear, Shutter Island and The Departed.

And a thumbs up from someone like that? We just hope Kashyap is gloating and makes that New York trip soon!
