Greater Noida Authority plans to woo commuters with advanced e-rickshaw

E-rickshaws are manufactured in association with Samman, a city-based non-profit organisation.

According to authority officials, the main purpose of introducing these battery operated rickshaws is to provide communication facilities to commuters from bus stops to their homes. The new lot of rickshaws are more advanced and are laced with improved brake technologies and minimum maintenance cost. The Authority is also planning to introduce GPRS systems soon. While the charges would depend on the distance, the minimum rate is set at Rs 10, whereas the maximum a commuter will need to spend is Rs 20.

The first phase of the e-rickshaw was launched in January this year, but the authority had only launched 15 rickshaws the time. As per the new plan, nearly 100 battery operated e-rickshaws will run in and around the city, which will make travelling to short distances easier for residents.

At present, the only other conveyance available to daily commuters is sharing auto rickshaws. However, most of them are running without permits and are increasingly becoming infamous because of the petty crimes like theft committed by such auto drivers.
