The posh south Delhi constituency of Greater Kailash is set for an interesting fight in the upcoming assembly elections in the national capital. Ajay Kumar Malhotra, son of sitting MLA from the seat Vijay Kumar Malhotra, faces a tough competition both from Congress candidate Virendra Kasana and Aam Aadmi Party nominee Saurabh Bhardwaj.
While Kasana enjoys political clout in the area by virtue of being the sitting councillor in South Delhi Municipal Corporation, Bhardwaj too has wide support from people looking for a change.
The constituency includes four villages — Chirag Delhi, Shahpur Jat, Jamrudpur and Khirke and constitutes around 1.4 lakh votes.
Kasana is also confident of his victory. He believes he will benefit from the anti-incumbency being faced by Malhotra Senior.
Though Greater Kailash residents are fine with Malhotra Senior’s work done for in the constituency, many are looking for a change. ‘Ajay is young and may work with greater energy in the area. But why should we not vote for the AAP, which is talking about bringing a change in the existing order of things,’ said a senior citizen in the area. A total of six candidates are in the election fray.
