Just a few steps away from the police picket outside The Great India Place (GIP) mall in Sector-18, Noida, three robbers attempted to snatch cash worth Rs 15 lakh in broad daylight. Of the three accused, two have been arrested by the Noida police, while one managed to escape.
‘The incident took place on Monday around 2 pm in front of gate number 3 of the GIP mall. The victim, an agent of the Home Town store in GIP mall, was robbed at gun point, while he was on his way to deposit the cash at a bank in Atta market. The victim was so scared at being held at gunpoint that he handed over the money without any resistance. This saved him from sustaining any injuries,’ a senior police official said.
The victim has been identified as Satender. He had just stepped out with the Rs 15.40 lakh in a bag, when the three accused made a grab for it. ‘When he raised an alarm, the passers-by, including a security guard and an auto driver along with Giwar Singh, a constable posted at the picket, came to his help. They managed to catch two of the gang, while the third snatcher managed to escape,’ the police official added.
The security guard, Rajesh Mishra, along with Mukesh, the auto driver, received critical injuries from gun shots fired by the three goons. The constable also received minor injuries in scuffle.
‘As the robbers reached the mall’s exit, Mukesh tried to stop them. Despite being shot at, he fought with the robbers while the crowd ran up and caught hold of them. The mob beat them up severely before handing them over to the police,’ said Amit, an eye-witness.
‘Security guard Rajesh Mishra and Mukesh have been admitted to Vinayak Hospital, while the robbers, identified as Vikram and Guddu, have been admitted to Kailash Hospital. The duo also sustained severe injuries as the mob beat them up before handing them over to the police. Two pistols and entire cash have been recovered from them,’ said Yogesh Singh, Superintendent of Police (City).
Doctors at Vinayak Hospital said the conditon of both Rajesh and Mukesh is now stable and they are out of danger. But instead of rewarding the security guard and the auto driver who suffered gun shots while catching the two accused, Noida police has announced a reward of Rs 5,000 for the constable.
Singh added that Vikram and Guddu have confessed their crime and during interrogation the two revealed the identity of the third accused, Babu. They said Babu was waiting on his motorcycle, a few steps away from the police picket.
