Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Tuesday said Karnataka should wait for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's decision on its plea for a review of CRA's 19 September order directing it to release 9,000 cusecs to Tamil Nadu before taking the next course of action on the issue.
‘Karnataka should wait for the decision of Manmohan Singh, who is also the Cauvery River Authority Chairperson, on its application for a review of the 19 September order, which directed the state to release 9,000 cusecs to Tamil Nadu from September 20 to 15 October,’ he told reporters here.
Gowda said he has urged Singh to depute a Central team to assess the water level in the reservoirs and the status of agriculture activities in the Cauvery basin in the state.
If 9,000 cusecs of water was released till October 15 as directed by the Supreme Court, the state would lose another 11-12 tmc ft, Gowda said. ‘Karnataka has released nearly 19 to 20 tmc water since September 20 and northeast monsoon is imminent in Tamil Nadu,’ he said.
