While questioning prime minister Narendra Modi’s interest in social networking sites, former BJP leader KN Govindacharya claimed that such vision only benefits private companies like Facebook at the cost of public exchequer.
In an affidavit filed in the Delhi High Court, he has also challenged the government’s move to outsource management of official social networking accounts to private agencies, claiming that it will hamper nation’s security by putting public data in to the hand of private players.
He said, ‘Ministry of Women and Child Development and other ministries have issued tender for appointment of consultant who can get five lakhs user to Ministry Social Media Account. This alone will generate value of more than Rs 350 crore to face-book and annual income of more than Rs 5 crore.’
‘Government data cannot be used for foreign company’s commercial gain and all such agreements are illegal and violation of Public Records Act, Official Secrets Act, Article-14 and 19, RTI Act and IT Act. For Indian print and electronic media lot of rules and regulations are there but no law is enforced on Social Media Company. Therefore I demand for scrapping of TRAI, Censor Board, NBA, Press Council, ASIC among others,’ Govindacharya said in his affidavit.
Govindacharya warned that if rules were not enforced and data not kept in ‘Indian Servers’ then Modi government digital India programme will benefit US and India instead of ‘nation first’ will become ‘nation worst’.
